Support Center for Visually Impaired

The Support Center for visually impaired persons is implemented by the Project sub-implementer, the Red Cross of the City of Skopje. It provides  support, such as professional training for employment, mobility, access to services and advocacy.

Working hours are from 09:00 – 17:00 hrs.

The activities of the Support Center for visually impaired persons aim to advance their quality of life by organizing educational workshops, psychological counseling for visually impaired persons and their families, socialization, administrative support for the realization of their rights, disease prevention and raising the awareness for the needs of the visually impaired.

1.The first type of support to be offered on daily basis is regular psychological counseling, socialization, information sharing and advice regarding their inclusion and utilization of the social and health care systems in Macedonia for visually impaired persons and their families.

2. The second type of support to be delivered is career skills development in order to render the blind and visually impaired able to work in a professional environment.

This involves : a) Basic skills development, such as: orientation, cooking and eating, personal care and hygiene, independent daily functioning;
                          b) The Support Center provides regular courses for development of skills, such are reading and writing in Braille, use of computers and technology, and things otherwise never before accessible to them, such as safety and first aid, poetry, English language, communications and desk operation, all of which will enable visually impaired people to be much more competitive on the employment market.

Also the Support Center works on developing soft skills, such as writing CV and letter of motivation, applying for jobs, etc. Success stories of visually impaired people are presented to other beneficiaries to boost their motivation.

3. As a third type of support that the Center offers is to liaison with public and private companies in order to seek job opportunities for beneficiaries through company visits, public events and career fairs.
